New York Fashion Week: Woman's World

2013-09-10-091013AFLead340.jpg
When a man designs for women, much is made about whether or not that designer gets women. If the consensus is that he does indeed understand the modern woman, the next question is usually: Well, does he like women? Do his collections empower women or do they marginalize them? The answer is almost always: "He designs for a particular woman", meaning the sophisticated social; the downtown chick; the fashion girl. Muses are often conjured. And the conversation dead ends at an icon. See Grace Kelly.Kate MossSarah Jessica.
Now, as a man who edits the country's most widely-read women's fashion magazine, I am particularly interested in seeing what women designers have in store for women each season. After all, they undoubtedly bring a first-person perspective to the equation. Nobody questions whether or not, a Donna Karan or a Victoria Beckham say, can relate to women. We have to assume that they not only design for their customer but also for themselves. How then does a female designer's experience as a working woman -- often times a working mother -- influence the clothes she sends down the runway as she imagines the role they might play in the real world? Who is today's woman and what does she need?

The best bun styles

The bun is a classic updo all in itself. It can be worn in so many ways and different styles there is one for every occasion. These buns listed below are the best of the best. They are very popular because of there versatility and the ease it takes to create the styles. They take very little supplies and time. If you are going out for a night on the town or walking your dog these buns will having you looking stylish and all around well put together.

The messy bun

The famous messy bun. This is great bun for anyone with a busy life style. Whether you woke up late or just dont feel like doing anything fancy the messy bun is a simple fast hairstyle that will go with just about anything.

How to create this style

All you need is a hair band and some bobby pins. No brush required. It doesn't matter if you have day after styling hair the messy bun still looks great. You just pull your hair back put it in a pony, twist and pin. The high up messy bun is very trendy. Adding accessories like sparkly bobby pins, flowers and even head bands give this look even more style.

The ballerina bun

This is another great style. The ballerina bun is neat and elegant. This hair style can complete many different looks. It can be worn to the grocery store at work and even for a night out. The ballerina bun is worn up high upon the head like a pretty shiny crown.

How to create a ballerina bun

You will need a brush, water, hairspray, two hair ties and a hair doughnut. The first step is to pull your hair into a high pony tail. Smooth out all of the bumps using a brush. The next step is to put the hair doughnut around the pony tail. Separate and smooth out all the hair covering the whole doughnut. Then secure that with another hair tie. Now you might have extra hair sticking out. Take the left over hairs and either tuck it under or twist it around the bun. Then use more bobby pins to secure the bun. The last step is to spray hair spray to keep the hair in place.

The side bun

This is a very versatile bun. This is another one of those buns that can be styled in so many different ways that it could be worn on the red carpet or at home on a lazy Sunday. It can be done up with accessories or played down in a low side messy bun. The classic low side bun is a very popular choice and this probably because it goes with everything and takes minutes to style.

How to create this style

You will need a brush, a hair tie and some bobby pins. The first step is to brush out your hair. Then braid all of your hair to one side. Stretch out the braid to make the pieces look bigger. Then you just roll the braid up into a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins and your finished. This style looks great with a nice big flower clip I think.

The french braided bun

This is the perfect bun to dress up any look. This style can make a pair of jeans and a simple T-shirt look classy. It can also be worn with an elegant or flirty dress. This bun is a little more time consuming and complex than the others but the look is worth the time.

How to create this style

Separate two front sections of hair. Section off the rest in a pony. French braid the two braids towards the back of your head. Secure both braids with a pony tail holder. Then take all three sections of hair and and put them into one pony tail. Take out the other two bands in the french braids. Now you can either create a messy bun or braid the rest of the hair and pin it up into a bun. Secure the bun of choice with bobby pins and accessorize.

The classy low bun

This is a very simple style. It takes only minutes and is very easy to learn. This is a great style for work or if you are on the go.

How to create a classic low slung bun

You need a hair brush, hair tie and some bobby pins. First brush our your hair and then pull it into a low pony tail. Twist your hair and start wrapping it around the base of the pony tail until it is twisted all the way around. Secure it with some bobby pins and you are finished already. Another little thing you could do is to leave a small section of hair out to wrap around and cover the hair tie this adds a nice little finish.
